400. After doing research, I noticed there seems to be much history behind doing Halloween shows in Georgia..is there any specific reason, or tradition behind this, or is it just coincidence?
(Nick) Let’s call it a tradition. Why not? Atlanta rocks.401. SA – can you see yourself as an angel?
Email: frankiev@butthair.com(SA) Well once in grade school I played ” the monotone angel who wanted to sing in the Christmas choir”. Does that count?402. What is a Transistor?
Email: pettibone311@excite.com(Nick) Every life form on the planet, be it animal or vegetable, is a conductor, or transistor of the same life force that runs through us all. It’s a kind of scientific spirituality.402. Out of all your guys songs…which would you say is the most fun for you to play live?
Email: cheesewagon182@hotmail.com(Nick) Freak Out is a classic that comes to my mind.(P-Nut) Probably Freak Out, it just seems to move the crowd and us in a great way.(Tim) They are all fun to play, it’s hard to pick a fav.403. If you knew the world was going to end in 24 hours, where would you spend your time?
Email: meg03110@netzero.net(Nick) Probably on the phone saying goodbye to people. Either that or playing a huge gig near Car Henge in Nebraska.(P-Nut) With my fiance’ out on some mountain and/or the beach, gotta bring the doggy, too, can’t forget her crazy ass.404. My question is for Chad…I am a drummer, and I love to play your stuff. I am wondering how it is that you came across your personal style of drumming?
Email: PunkBoy034@hotmail.comI believe through years of influence in different styles of music, and by different drummers.405. Is Nick Hexum really 6ft 3(in)?
Email: jcline@fuse.net(Nick) At least!406. This question is for my boy SA. I’ve never heard the full story of how u got into 311, how did it come about?
Email: DJ Zebulon 311@aol.com(SA) I got into 311 by hooking up with Chad in college. I was always laying raps on him and one day he invited me to sit in on a rehearsal. The rest is history.407. How does it feel that when you come out on the stage and everyone is there to see you?
Email: Dana-311@home.com(Nick) It’s the best high in the world. When you find a high for which there is no hangover or drawback, then you know you’ve found your purpose in life.(P-Nut) It takes away any tiredness, tightness, timidness, and/or tension. In fact, that feeling is a cure all, if there is such a thing.(Tim) It’s fun to rock.(Chad) Its hard to pin down that feeling…excitement mixed with a little bit of nervousness while trying to focus and concentrate.(SA) Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!408. Were any of you ever caught by your parents smoking bud?
(Nick) My dad found a little sack of weed in my jeans once when I was around 16. He gave it back to me and gave me some Pharmacological studies on marijuana to look over. He’s a scientist and he wanted me to be informed on fact instead of propaganda. The study said that marijuana did not have greater risks and negative effects than legal drugs such as alcohol, caffeine, or tobacco. My dad rules.
(P-Nut) Not I. I told her about it.(Tim) Not me.(Chad) Yes.(SA) No, but one time I invited our bus driver into my folks’ house for a late dinner and when he left his fat sack decided to fall on the floor. Sorry mom.409. Will miT do more soloing on the next album? I hope so. His soloing is just off the hook.
Email: jroy311@aol.com(Tim) There will be some solos.410. Who’s taller SA or Chad?
Email: rtt3700@yahoo.com(Chad) I believe SA is taller by millimeters.(SA) I would say we are about the same height, although Chad tends to wear shoes with big heels.411. How is the new album coming along?
The new album is off to a great start. We moved into a new studio for this one…so it took us a while to get set up and running – but now this place is like a home to us and we’re writing and recording new stuff almost every day.412. Have you thought of a name yet? I heard Illuminations could be an option?
We don’t have a name for the album yet. I think there’s a rumor going around about “Illuminations”. I think P-Nut said in an interview that he wanted to name a record “Illuminati” or something….that’s probably how the rumor started.413. It seems that you guys tend to have a new style on every CD, are there any new styles you are exploring for the upcoming album? I’ve heard a jungle rock hybrid could be a possibility?
(Nick) Jungle rock is a possibility. It has not yet materialized. In ourcamp, hip hop is currently having a rebirth, listening-wise. Therefore, there’s a lot of rap in our rock lately. We’ve been referring to this style as “Funkyrock.”414. Is the album still aimed at a summer 2001 release?
We’re hoping to record over the winter and then release the album in the summer – but we don’t have a release date in place.415. When ETSD came out, it was released with a four song CD. Are you planning on releasing another CD containing unreleased songs with ETSD II?
We would really like to release the same type of package with a CD and a video (on VHS & DVD).416. What songs are you planning on using for ETSD II, any outtakes?
We would probably use some outtakes or some remixes or some live stuff or instrumentals…we don’t know yet – but it would be unreleased stuff.417. Is ETSD II still scheduled for a winter 2000 release date?
That’s actually probably going to come out in 2001. I’m sorry that we keep pushing that back…but we are putting it together ourselves with our friend Brian Smith and there is so much footage to go through…we just want it to be better than ETSD so we need to take our time with it.418. Do you think it will be released on VHS and DVD this time around?
We definitely plan to release it on DVD.419. Are you planning on having another single after Large in the Margin? If so, what would you like it to be?
We don’t plan to release any more singles off of “Soundsystem”.420. You guys toured with Incubus back in ’97, and now they are huge. Are there any small bands that you think are going to hit it big? Any that are standing out?
(Nick) I think Zebrahead and 2 Skinnie J’s are both coming up strong.421. I saw the last show you played with Incubus, it was great when the guys came out and gave you hugs. How was it touring with Incubus again?
It was a lot of fun. One of the best tours we’ve ever done. Musically and personally everything just flowed. I’m sure we’ll hook up with them again in the future.422. How do you feel about their current success on MTV?
We think they deserve it.423. On 120 minutes Nick and P-Nut challenged the guys in Incubus to a rematch on the basketball court. I was wondering if you guys ever ended up playing that game?
We don’t really have to play the game…isn’t it obvious who would win?!424. I hear Zebrahead is joining the tour with you guys. (Good choice by the way!) How do you feel about touring with them? Why did you decide to go them?
We met some of the Zebrahead guys in Japan and they were really cool. We also noticed that a lot of our fans on our website bulletin board we’re saying that they would like to see a 311 – Zebrahead tour…so we put it together.425. What are you most looking forward to for the upcoming tour?
We can’t wait to get back out there and rock the crowd. Smokeout Fest in Cali and Voodoo Music Fest in New Orleans should be cool and Halloween in Atlanta and everywhere. We’re planning to play a few new songs on this tour – so all the shows should be special.426. What are you most looking forward to for the years to come?
(Nick) Right now screaming metal bands are everywhere. I’ll be interested to see what is next. Like when Nirvana came along and knocked Axl Rose into “Where Are They Now?” status, I’m looking forward to seeing who’s next. No one knows. More than that, I’m looking forward making a new record and speaking to lots of people through music, live shows, and verbally. I’m also looking forward to seeing George W. Bush not elected and I’m looking forward to hearing the next Common album. That guys a genius.427. What is the deal with the rumor of the next album title being “Illuminations”. Any truth?
Email: umd311@aol.com(P-Nut) No we haven’t named it yet. I do think that would make a good title, but I have suggested it before to a luke warm response, which is fine, five heads are better than one.
