About Me
Rising up from the western suburbs of Adelaide, Poetikool Justice in three years have established themselves at the forefront of Adelaide’s ever-growing music scene. Named as part of the 2007 top 20 up and coming live acts to watch out for in South Australia, Poetikool Justice produce a catchy fusion of Hard Funky*Reggae*Hip Hop which is influenced musically by a wide range of rootsy underground styles.
Musically, Characteristically and politically their inspirations come from the likes of Michael Franti, Rage against the Machine, Sublime, 311 and all other musicians who are true to the cause and the art.
“Lyrically our songs tend to be inspired by the space and beauty of the Australian landscape the fact that, you know, were very lucky to have the time and the opportunity in this country to interact so fully and frequently with the natural environment. But on the other side of things there’s a position here when you look at the political climate and the sort of social issues that Australians are beginning to face and have faced, makes me really question what’s right and wrong. Writing about these things from a personal perspective helps me to feel more positive, to understand these issues a little better and gives me a chance to voice an opinion” Dedz - MC/Vocals
Their energetic live show and fresh sound is produced straight from the heart and soul essentially beginning from improvised jam sessions, collaborated ideas and life itself. This is the reason they have the ability to play with a range of live acts from funk, hip hop, reggae, and roots to styles such as punk, jazz, hardcore, drum & bass, rock and ska. It’s a cycle that completely influences the band, continually moulding and evolving their sound producing musik that speaks highly for itself. This positive and explosively energetic attitude is what has been earning them the respect of crowds and industry people alike.
The ‘PJ’s, as their fans so affectionately call them, have continued to astound crowds at every show they play, with sensational jam sessions, catchy songs, and absolute dedication to putting on an explosive show, demanding attention as heads turn when the PJ’s take to the stage. The dance floor erupts into a frenzy as the absolute energy of the music takes over any venue, no matter how many people present.
"Wether it be 400 people at a show or 2 people, if they have made the effort to come out and see us perform, we make sure we put on one hell of a show hopefully they wont forget!" AdamB - Bass
With their debut album released in december 2007 at a packed 400+ Governor Hindmarsh event, the eleven track LP titled 'Ground Level' has been getting nothing but positive feedback all round.
"The PJ's have amazingly managed to cram all thier live energy into this record, and they've done so in fine fashion. This band's signature eclectic vocal/Mc style is captured beautifully, accompanied by all the reggae based funky rhythms, punchy guitar lines and solid drums that we've come to expect from Poetikool Justice. 'Ground Level' has you uncontrollably tapping along in seconds!" 'Ground Level' review Luke Balzan - RIP IT UP
To the PJ's this album reveals who they are, where they have come from, and where they are going. It’s a seedling which is growing from Ground Level aspiring to bloom, pollinate and send a unifying message of PEACE*FUN*MUSIK to the world.
Now with many new songs and chapters ahead of these boys, they are ready to tour Australia, NZ and the World! So listen out for the PJ positive vibes heading your way!
