SUMMER UNITY TOUR COMPLETED:
311 has now finished their coast to coast, two month, Summer Unity tour.
Playing 37 shows across 23 states, 311 played a total of 797 songs this summer; and a total of 83 different songs were played! At least 8 songs from each album, from 'Music to 'Don't Tread on Me' were represented on this tour. 311 rocked all of their classics and resurfaced some more rare tracks including Silver, Salsa, Six, Transistor Intro, Let the Cards Fall, Wake Your Mind Up, Still Dreaming, How Do You Feel, and three very special performances of "Exodus" with 311 & The Wailers together on stage; a combined 12 musicians on stage, while a sea of fans sang along. It was truly amazing!!

Also this summer, the most tickets ever sold for a 311 concert happened in Atlanta with over 18,000 fans in attendance!!; Other shows that eclipsed the 10,000 ticket mark included New Jersey (17,210), Boston (15,276), DC (13,812), Council Bluffs/Omaha (13,467), Kansas City (11,156) and Colorado/Red Rocks (10,000).
All in all, the summer tour really proves 311 is an undeniable touring phenomenon cultivating a grassroots fanbase that is thriving now more than ever!!
THANK YOU to everyone that came out to rock the house!! And special thanks to all of you that traveled to catch multiple shows!!
A heartfelt Thank You also goes out to The Wailers and Pepper who made the journey an amazing experience on both a musical and personal level. The positive vibes were in full effect. Much respect.
As you may have heard, 311 is planning to take a break now that they've wrapped up the Summer Tour. Once the band has recharged their batteries they'll either begin writing songs & jump into the studio or they could possibly jump back on the road. At this point, nothing is planned and it will probably be a little while before anything is scheduled. But bottomline…. 311 will be back!! |

THOUGHTS ON THE SUMMER TOUR:
P-NUT:
This has truly been one for the ages, so many remarkable shows, so much talent, young and otherwise, and the continued amazing support from our steady as EARTH fans. Having both the WAILERS and PEPPER on stage with us was really really special; bookends of what has happened and what is coming ahead. I will forever be blown away to be caught in the middle of the wonderful traveling circus. The 311 family is forever humbled by your and everyone's love, trust, and hunger for what we call MUSICK and especially so during this Summer. This is the one I was dreaming about. Thanks everybody for everything.

CHAD:
I just wanted to say thank-you from the bottom of my heart. Without you this would not be possible. We would not be able to travel and play music, like we have been so fortunate to do for 13 years now, alone. You have helped this band elevate and have a purpose. When I first started getting and reading fan mail I was amazed that music would have such a positive effect on people. Only by picking up soundwaves invisible to your eyes but not to your ears. I was blown away knowing the thing we loved to do, could actually help people. That gives us purpose. I cannot express how lucky I feel in words. There is no way to express the joy and peace that it gives me to play music that people enjoy and can feel and understand in the most detailed and deepest of ways. I never thought there would be this level of awareness from any group of fans. Not about songs or details of the members but about the energy of it. The spirituality of it. The purpose of it. This last tour with the Wailers and Pepper has been one of the best for me so far. I have learned so much about vibration and how important it is. I absolutely can't wait to get back out there and be sharing such great times with you all. I feel like all of us (fans and the band) are helping each other out through this adventure on earth. Stay positive. Be happy. No fear. No worries. Breathe and just be. One love. One vibration.

NICK:
This years summer tour has been really amazing. It's kind of changed how we view our band. We realize that we have such an awesome fan base that we can tour and be happy whether or not we have hit songs. We've always suspected that to be the case, but this summer has proven it. We are, honestly, still a grassroots organization. We believe that word has continually gotten around that we are a fun band to see live. This summer the shows seem to have evolved into ritual events with people tailgaiting and making it a day-long celebration. (Of course, having Pepper and The Wailers has helped a lot, too!) We've broken so many attendance records on this tour that it's been a happy surprise for us. I think that the unprecedented success of this tour has really had a good effect on our band. Chad and I talk about it quite a bit. We can basically make albums for artistic enjoyment and then tour whether or not radio plays our latest offering. Ya know? It's great. And it all just brings me back to thanking you, the fans who have given us such wonderful support over the years. Thank you! Good times!
Cheers,
Nick
P.S. Please don't be concerned by the fact that we're taking a little breather after this tour. The band is getting along great and we all feel lucky to be in it. We just need to rest up a bit and experience some normal domestic life for a bit. We'll be back with new music and more touring before ya know it!!! |

SA:
You have all made this Summer one of, if not the absolute, best tours I can recall. Thank you. Your energy and all around good vibes sent this one outta the park! It is all about the people isn't it? SEEN!! (a lil patois for ya) And what a package. Dem cyaan deny Pepper! Shirtless, shade wearin' Hawaiian Reggae. Yi, their drummer, shares my b-day. Homey was born cool. I knew there was a reason I liked him. And what's not to love about The Wailers? Man, mad wicked cool people. Getting to hang with these sweet people was something I'll not soon forget. SEEN!!! I cyaan stop man! We learned so much from them and I hope they gleaned as much in return. I'll always remember hanging with guitarist Al Anderson and hearing his stories about Bob, reggae music, and life in general. Or playing dominoes with some bona fide Jamaicans; Keith "touch my arm!!" Sterling, Sister Marcia, and Sister Roxanne, pure Jamaican Queens. Keith and Al also toured quite extensively with Peter Tosh during his great, yet brief, solo career. I'll also treasure hanging with the Wailers sound man Boom Boom. I'll be honest, that man needs subtitles on his chest when he speaks. I've told him straight up. It was so chill talkin' music with him and dude was so easy to break a smile and laugh. Artical Don and bredren. Respect man. Christian and Zeb, keys and skins respectively. Cool cool dudes and true hearts of gold. Rich, their Tour Manager, unofficial glue, and not so shabby point guard. Of course Junior and Family Man. The generals. Rockers. Lions of Judah. What a time it was. Strictly crucial!!! One drop. One love. Time gliding on, time gliding on....

ADAM (311 Mgmt):
I've been working with 311 for 13 years...and have seen many great 311 tours. But something about the 2006 Summer Unity Tour was truly special. I saw 311 step up to a new level. Putting their heart & soul into each performance - I think they played some of their best shows ever. It was really inspiring. I think 311 fans also stepped up to a new level. It was great to see 311 fans coming to shows early to tailgate, wearing their 311 shirts, standing up & rocking throughout the entire show, traveling to multiple shows, chanting in unison during "Freeze Time," holding up lighters during "Beyond the Gray Sky", clapping in unison during Chad's drum solo, bouncing in unison during "Applied Science", etc. The band really fed off the energy of the crowd…and the crowd fed off the energy of the band. It was beautiful. The whole experience felt more like a special event and not just a concert. It seems like it's becoming an annual ritual that the band & the fans will want to experience every summer for years to come. So a sincere thanks to the band & the fans for a truly amazing tour....Thank you! |

PETER (311 Mgmt):
311 is more than a fanbase. It's a community. And that has never been more evident to us than this Summer. With no new single at radio & no new video at tv, the music of 311 and the power of the people still brought out mass crowds from coast to coast. 311 is one of the best live bands in the land and word is out that 311 is a show not to be missed. After 16 years of amazing performances, the band is worthy of such recognition. And every night the band feels honored when they take the stage. Thanks to all for a great summer. More adventures ahead!

3-11 DAY HDNET & DVD UPDATE:
As you all know, we recorded audio & video of 3-11 Day 2006 in Memphis. We are still in the process of editing the video and mixing the audio. We are planning to broadcast 2 hours of the show in High-Definition Video & 5.1 Surround Sound audio on HDNet TV in late October (tentative date is October 22nd). Right now we do not have specific plans to release a 3-11 Day 2006 DVD. However, it is something that we are discussing...and we are editing & mixing the entire show for archival purposes and for potential DVD release. We'll keep you updated as news develops. |
