DON'T TREAD ON ME:
BIG NEWS… 311's new album has officially been titled, "Don't Tread On Me".

To the right is a photo of the new album cover, designed by Shepard Fairey, Shepard is the founder of Studio Number One. He is the creator of the Obey Giant label and founder of Swindle Magazine. He also designed the artwork for the 311 Live in New Orleans DVD. 311 really love Shepard's artistic style and vision and are really excited about the new album package. Click the album cover to see an enlarged version.

Regarding the title, Nick says the following, “To me, the meaning of the album title, "Don't Tread on Me" is simple - it's about freedom. Personal freedom. Freedom from any kind of oppression - political, religious, or social. It's a cool phrase and it really lends itself well to the imagery on the album cover. I think it's the coolest cover artwork we've had, along with the Evolver photo cover and the Live album cover. Those three are my faves. There's a lot to look at on this one. I still stare at album covers and read along with the lyrics to my favorite albums.

There will be 12 songs on the new album including… Thank Your Lucky Stars, Frolic Room, Don't Tread On Me, Speak Easy, Waiting, Shooting Up Flares and more.

311 are now in the process of mixing the album at the band's studio, The Hive, in Los Angeles. Mixing will take a few weeks followed by the mastering of the record. At that time, we will be able to announce a final song list.

Release dates for the single and album are still to be determined, stay tuned.

The production on the new album is sounding amazing and the band can't wait for you to hear the new songs and see the band rock them live!!
WORDS FROM NICK:
Greetings from the Hive! As we begin to mix our (wow!) eighth studio album it gets me looking back fondly at the incredible journey we've taken. It's so amazing to be able to create and play music for all these years. It's been a tremendously fulfilling experience and I want to thank our fans that make it all possible. I think we had a lot to say on this new album and I'm very happy with the combination of new styles that we've come up with. Overall, this album is more straight-forward. It's more like what you see at a 311 show; two vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. Evolver had more overdubs and was more influenced by the British heroes of the past. This one is pure America (with a little Jamaican herb!). I hope you enjoy the journey as much as we are. I can't wait to hear the crowd and see you guys rockin'!
Peace! - Nick
WORDS FROM P-NUT:
We are wrapping things up here at The Hive. We are starting up mixing, which we have to do pretty fast, so we can get "Don't Tread On Me" out coinciding with our tour. Delivering these songs to all of you is going to make all of our hard work pay off. We couldn't be more proud of the new songs, which to me, are on the dark side of things, which I believe makes sense with the worldwide consciousness. Nick, SA, miT and Chad have been busting their collective asses making sure that you feel what they feel. I did my best to make sure that I got as much film shot as I could while making this album, so there should be a great behind-the-scenes montage coming your way in one form or another. It's been fun being here at the studio, but we can't wait to see your shiny faces, and it won't be long now. Be nice / read something intense / understand yourself / thanks for letting us do what we love / you will be rewarded / I am
