NEW ALBUM INFO:
BIG NEWS!!!...the album has now been titled..."Evolver".
Nick shares some thoughts on the title...
"After 14 years together as a band, I think we've
really grown and evolved as people, musicians and
songwriters. And we feel like our fans (and music
lovers in general) have evolved right along with us.
These days people just seem to be more open-minded
to hybrid forms of music. We've always loved mixing
rock, rap, reggae, funk, jazz, etc...because we love
all
types of music - and I know
we're not alone. The new album will have plenty of
classic 311 rockers - but as we take another step
forward in the evolution of 311 - the record also
branches out into some new territory. All of this
led us to the title "Evolver" (along with a love for
the Beatles album "Revolver"). We think it suits the
album perfectly. We're all really excited about the
new songs and we can't wait to share them with you.
Get ready!"
"Evolver" will also be an enhanced CD which will include
interviews with 311 band members, concert footage
and a mini documentary on the making of the album
cover!!
THE ALBUM COVER:
311 just completed a photo shoot for the album artwork
at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. The Ambassador
Hotel was opened in the 1920's and was a luxurious
hotel catering to many movie stars of Old Hollywood
who partied, stayed or even lived at The Ambassador.
The hotel hosted the Academy Awards in the 30's and
40's and was home to the Coconut Grove Lounge, where
Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole and Sammy Davis Jr performed.
The hotel is also the site where Robert F. Kennedy
was assassinated, following a 1968 victory speech.
The Ambassador has been closed
since 1988, but such movies as "Forest Gump", "Pretty
Woman", "Man on the Moon", and "Fear & Loathing In
Las Vegas" have been filmed there.
TOURING 2003:
311's tour plans are still in the works, but look
for the band to return to the road in July, heading
coast to coast from July 15 to September 6. Two dates
have now been confirmed and added to the website Tour
Dates page. Much more info coming soon. Keep an eye
on the Tour
Dates page for updates in the next week or so.
SEXTON JOINS DRUMLINE:
In a special promotion for
the movie "Drumline," which was released on video/dvd
last week, 311 drummer Chad Sexton will join forces
with drummers Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers),
Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction), Greg Upchurch
(Puddle of Mudd), Nisan Stewart (Missy Elliott), Darren
Pheiffer (Goldfinger) and Mike Cosgrove (Alien Ant
Farm) for a live performance on "The Late Late Show
with Craig Kilborn" on April 24th. The drum line will
perform and give tribute to drum corps style drumming.
2 SKINNEE J'S SAY FAREWELL:
